Rachel Anne McAdams
Rachel Anne McAdams was born on the 17th
of November 1978, in London, Ontario, Canada, to Sandra Kay (Gale), a nurse and
Lance Frederick McAdams, an auto driver and furniture mover. Rachel is English,
Welsh and Irish-born. Rachel started her journey into acting at the age of 13
and by 13 was performing in Shakespearean performances at the summer theater
camps. She then went on to graduate with distinction with a BFA degree in
Theater from York University. Following her TV debut in Disney's The Famous Jett
Jackson in 1998, Rachel appeared in Canadian TV's Slings and Arrows 2003. The
comedy drama follows the struggle of Shakespearean theater groups. She won an
Gemini Award for her performance in 2003. Her breakthrough role in Mean Girls
(2004) as Regina George instantly landed her on the Hollywood's hot list of
promising young actors. After that film she was cast alongside Ryan Gosling in
The Notebook (2004). The Notebook was a smash in the box office and quickly
became the leading romantic drama for the new generation of filmgoers. McAdams
was introduced to Gosling while filming. They began dating until mid-2007.
McAdams continued to show her versatility on the screen with the comedy Wedding
Crashers (2005), the action thriller Red Eye (2005), and the holiday-themed
drama The Family Stone (2005).McAdams then went on to explore the world of
independent film through Married Life (2007), which debuted at Toronto Film
Festival and also featured Pierce Brosnan, Chris Cooper and Patricia Clarkson.
After appearing in The Lucky Ones, a military drama, State of Play, and The
Time Traveler's Wife (2009), McAdams appeared opposite Jude Law and Robert
Downey Jr. in Guy Ritchie's international blockbuster Sherlock Holmes. McAdams
was the determined producer of a failed morning TV show in Morning Glory
(2010), the romantic fiancee of materialistic Owen Wilson in Woody Allen's
Midnight in Paris (2011) and then returned to romantic drama in the critically
acclaimed film The Vow (2012) opposite Channing Tatum. McAdams is also a part
of Terrence Malick in To the Wonder (2012) as well as Noomi Rapace is Passion
(2012) in Brian De Palma’s thriller.
